Athena was created with the objective of being the Cultural Association of all the people of Switzerland and with aim to elaborate and present humanistic and scientific knowledge to find new answers to the questions: “What is a human being? Where do they come from? What will they become?”; therefore, it wants to contribute to the endless quest that all cultures have been pursuing in order to find an answer to the ultimate question that mankind has been asking about their existence and about the foundation of ethical values.​

It is important that people get acquainted with the latest and numerous scientific and humanistic discoveries to enrich their own critical thinking. Our goal is to stimulate knowledge and thoughts by presenting hypotheses and results of modern culture. Contemporary sciences and technologies (neurosciences, nano- and biotechnology, IT and big data, robotics and AI, anthropology, evolutionism, astrophysics) and social sciences (history, sociology, psychology, philosophy) are contributing to look for answers, deal with thoughts, fears, dreams, values and ideals. Culture produces ideologies and ethical-political codes intended at improving cohesion among human communities; justifying the hierarchical organisation of society and human supremacy over other living beings and nature. ​Recent discoveries in astrophysics allow us to explore new worlds and explain the beginning of life. ​This secular, non-political, non-denominational association has the objective of promoting conferences and lectures by university professors and worldwide famous writers on such topics and welcoming people with various visions and personal sensitivities to the dialogue, to reaffirm the need for a multidisciplinary culture.
