ATHENA CULTURA aims to democratize both scientific and humanistic culture, organizing cycles of conferences with the best university professors or writers in the world. This is because an intellectual is one who, by virtue of his solid culture and civic commitment, applies his intelligence to the criticism of the customs and traditions, institutions, and politics of the society in which he lives. Therefore, this figure is often uncomfortable when he does not put himself at the service of the regime; But if the criticism conducted by intellectuals can also be irritating, it is nevertheless fundamental to identify elements of crisis and to try to remedy them. In a historical period of decadence such as ours, it is necessary to reflect on the meaning of life and the world. We therefore need a quality culture to better see the shades of color that life presents us and therefore collect doubts and not certainties. As you all know, already in the time of the Socratics, Platone distinguished between Doxa (opinion) and Episteme (science). In this way, we are vaccinated against fake news, which unfortunately is all the rage everywhere.
The association also has pedagogical purposes, in the sense that it helps people to ask questions, reflect and find solutions. In an image society, going back to spending time thinking is fundamental. Moreover, Culture makes men free and able to think for themselves.
